Detailed Day To Day Itinerary - Kazakhstan New Year Tour Package | Almaty Astana 7 Nights 8 Days | From Dec 25

Day 1 - Welcome to Almaty: Your Adventure Begins

Your Kazakhstan adventure starts the moment you land at Almaty International Airport on Christmas Day. After the long journey from India, imagine the relief of seeing your friendly English-speaking guide holding a sign with your name, ready to welcome you with a warm smile. No hunting for taxis, no language barriers, no stress—just a smooth, comfortable ride to your hotel through the city streets decorated for the holidays.

The Resident Abay Hotel (or similar) will be your home for the next four nights, and after checking in, the rest of the day is yours. Take a hot shower, rest those tired legs, maybe explore the neighborhood around your hotel. Step outside and feel that crisp mountain air—you’re really here, in Central Asia, at the foot of the magnificent Tian Shan mountains. Order room service, venture out for dinner, or simply crash and dream about the adventures waiting for you tomorrow.

Day 1 Highlights:

  • Warm meet and greet at Almaty International Airport
  • Private transfer to your centrally located hotel
  • Check-in to Resident Abay Hotel or similar
  • Free time to rest and acclimatize
  • Evening at leisure to explore nearby area
Day 2 - Discovering Almaty's Heart & Soul

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, your guide arrives to show you why Almaty is called the cultural heart of Kazakhstan. Your first stop is Panfilov Park, where locals gather under ancient trees and the famous Zenkov Cathedral rises like something out of a fairy tale. This isn’t just any cathedral—it’s one of the world’s tallest wooden buildings, painted in colors so bright they look almost unreal against the blue sky. You’ll visit the Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame, a moving tribute that tells the story of Kazakhstan’s history and resilience.

But the real magic happens when you ascend Kok-Tobe Hill. As the cable car climbs higher and higher, watch Almaty spread out beneath you like a living map—the grid of streets, the mountains standing guard in the distance, the glittering buildings catching the winter sun. At the top, you’re standing 1,100 meters above sea level with the entire city at your feet. There’s a mini amusement park up here, quirky statues (including the famous Beatles monument), and plenty of spots for those Instagram-worthy shots. When you’re ready to descend, the cable car ride back down gives you a whole new perspective of this beautiful city as the afternoon light paints everything golden.

Day 2 Highlights:

  • Hearty breakfast at hotel to fuel your day
  • Guided tour of Panfilov Park and its ancient trees
  • Visit to stunning Zenkov Cathedral (wooden architectural marvel)
  • Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame tribute
  • Cable car ride up to Kok-Tobe Hill (1,100m above sea level)
  • Panoramic views of Almaty from the observation deck
  • Explore Kok-Tobe’s attractions and photo opportunities
  • Scenic cable car descent back to city center
Day 3 - Mountain Magic & Sweet Treats

Today you’re heading higher into the mountains, and trust us—this is the day you’ve been waiting for. After breakfast, you’ll drive up to Medeu, home to the world’s highest skating rink at 1,691 meters above sea level. The air is thinner up here, the mountains tower around you, and even if you don’t skate, just standing on this legendary ice rink where Olympic records have been set is absolutely thrilling.

Then comes Shymbulak, one of Central Asia’s premier mountain resorts. The cable car journey up is breathtaking—literally. Pine forests give way to snow-covered peaks, and suddenly you’re in an alpine wonderland. Whether it’s ski season or not, Shymbulak’s beauty is year-round. Feel like you’re on top of the world as you breathe in that pure mountain air and snap photos that’ll make everyone back home jealous.

After all that mountain adventure, it’s time to engage your other senses at Green Bazaar. This isn’t your average market—it’s a sensory explosion. Mountains of colorful spices, vendors calling out their deals, the sweet smell of fresh bread, dried fruits piled high in rainbow arrangements. Try some local delicacies, practice your bargaining skills, soak in the authentic atmosphere. Then finish your day at the Lotte Rakhat chocolate shop, where you’ll discover why Kazakh chocolates are beloved across the region. Sample different varieties, pick up gifts for folks back home, and maybe sneak a few treats for yourself.

Day 3 Highlights:

  • Breakfast and departure to mountain areas
  • Visit legendary Medeu ice skating rink (1,691m altitude)
  • Cable car journey to Shymbulak mountain resort
  • Stunning alpine views and mountain photo opportunities

  • Return to city for Green Bazaar shopping experience
  • Immerse in local market culture and vibrant atmosphere
  • Taste testing at Lotte Rakhat chocolate factory shop
  • Shop for traditional Kazakh treats and souvenirs
Day 4 - Into the Wild: Alma-Arasan Gorge

Your last full day in Almaty takes you deep into nature. Alma-Arasan Gorge isn’t just beautiful—it’s the kind of place that makes you stop talking and just stare. Located at 1,780 meters above sea level, this mountain valley is where the Prokhodnaya River carves through the northern slopes of the Zailiyskiy Alatau range. Pine forests, crystal-clear streams, mountain peaks stretching toward the sky—this is Kazakhstan at its most pristine.

Bundle up and take a walk through the gorge. The silence here is different from city silence—it’s full of bird calls, rushing water, wind through the trees. If you’re feeling adventurous, your guide can point out trails that lead higher up the valley. The eco-tax you’re paying helps preserve this natural wonder, and honestly, one look around and you’ll understand why it’s worth protecting. Breathe deep, take your time, and let the mountains work their magic on you. This is the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left.

Day 4 Highlights:

  • Final breakfast in Almaty
  • Scenic drive to Alma-Arasan Gorge (1,780m elevation)
  • Guided nature walk through pristine mountain valley
  • Prokhodnaya River views and photo stops
  • Learn about local flora and fauna from your guide
  • Optional hiking trails for the adventurous
  • Peaceful mountain atmosphere away from city crowds
  • Eco-tax included for nature preservation
  • Return to Almaty for evening at leisure
Day 5 - Flying to the Future: Welcome to Astana

After breakfast and checking out of your Almaty hotel, you’re off to the airport for your flight to Astana (also known as Nur-Sultan). When you land in Kazakhstan’s capital, you’re stepping into a completely different world. If Almaty is about mountains and traditions, Astana is about ambition and the future.

After settling into your Wyndham Garden Hotel (or similar), your guide whisks you off to see the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation—a striking glass pyramid designed by world-renowned architect Norman Foster. It’s not just beautiful; it’s symbolic of Kazakhstan’s commitment to harmony among different faiths and cultures. Next, you’ll explore the National Museum of Kazakhstan, where you’ll come face-to-face with the famous “Golden Man,” a Scythian warrior whose gold-covered remains tell stories from 2,500 years ago. This museum isn’t dusty or boring—it’s a journey through time with interactive exhibits and jaw-dropping artifacts.

Then comes the iconic Baiterek Tower, Astana’s most recognizable landmark. Take the elevator up to the observation deck and place your hand in the golden handprint of Kazakhstan’s first president—locals say it brings good luck. From here, the entire city spreads before you in all its futuristic glory. End your evening at the massive “Kazakh Eli” Monument and Independence Square, one of the largest squares in all of Eurasia. If you’re up for it, there’s optional shopping at Khan Shatyr Mall, a giant transparent tent that’s like a city within a city.

Day 5 Highlights:

  • Breakfast and hotel check-out in Almaty
  • Private airport transfer and flight to Astana
  • Meet and greet at Astana airport

Day 6 - Magical Burabay: Santa's Kingdom & Natural Wonders

Today might just be the most unique day of your entire trip. After breakfast, you’re heading to Burabay, a region so beautiful that locals call it “the Kazakhstan Switzerland.” Your first stop is the Burabay Visitor Center, where multimedia exhibits and interactive displays bring the region’s legends and natural history to life. This isn’t just looking at boring plaques—it’s an immersive experience that sets the stage for everything you’re about to see.

The Burabay Zoo lets you get up close with native Kazakh wildlife, and there’s even a petting area where you can interact with friendly animals. But here’s where things get really special—you’re visiting the Santa Claus Residence in Burabay. Yes, you read that right. This is a full amusement park dedicated to Father Christmas, where you can meet real reindeer and huskies, go sledding down snowy hills, ice skate on pristine rinks, and even encounter a traditional Kazakh Shaman. It’s whimsical, it’s unexpected, and it’s absolutely delightful—especially this close to New Year’s.

Your final stop is Abylai Khan Glade, the heart of Burabay National Park. Here you’ll discover the main landmarks of this protected area, try on traditional Kazakh costumes for photos (hello, social media!), and even try your hand at archery. As the sun starts to set and you head back to Astana, you’ll be buzzing with stories that nobody back home will quite believe until they see your pictures.

Day 6 Highlights:

  • Breakfast and departure to Burabay region

Day 7 - Astana Uncovered: Where Vision Meets Reality

It’s New Year’s Eve, and you’re spending it exploring one of the world’s most fascinating capital cities. After breakfast, your comprehensive city tour begins at the Main Square, where you’ll see the “Mangilik El” Triumphal Arch—a towering 20-meter monument celebrating Kazakhstan’s 20 years of independence. The symbolism is powerful, and your guide will share the stories that make these monuments meaningful.

Next, you’ll visit the Central Mosque, the largest in all of Central Asia. Even if you’re not religious, the sheer scale and beauty of this building will leave you speechless. The white marble, the intricate designs, the sense of peace inside—it’s a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture. Then it’s off to the EXPO City area, built for the 2017 World Expo and now a symbol of Kazakhstan’s forward-thinking vision.

Your day concludes with a stop at Mega Silk Way Mall, where you can shop for last-minute souvenirs or simply marvel at yet another example of Astana’s ambitious architecture. Tonight, as the clock counts down to midnight, you’ll be celebrating New Year’s in a city that feels like it belongs in a science fiction movie—except it’s real, and you’re actually here.

Day 7 Highlights:

  • New Year’s Eve breakfast at hotel
  • Comprehensive Astana city sightseeing tour

Day 8 - Until We Meet Again

Your final morning in Kazakhstan arrives with mixed emotions—excitement to share your adventures with everyone back home, but sadness to leave this incredible country. After one last breakfast and hotel check-out, your guide ensures you reach the airport with plenty of time to spare. As your plane takes off and you watch Astana’s futuristic skyline fade into the distance, you’ll already be planning your return trip.

You’re not the same person who arrived eight days ago. You’ve experienced things most people only dream about. You’ve stood on mountaintops, explored futuristic cities, met Santa’s reindeer, tasted chocolates in ancient bazaars, and welcomed a new year in one of the world’s most unique destinations. These stories are yours forever, and Kazakhstan—with all its surprises and wonders—will always have a piece of your heart.

FAQ's

The package is priced at INR 72,000 per person for Almaty (4 nights) and INR 1,32,500 per person for Astana (3 nights), totaling INR 2,04,500 per person. This price covers 2 adults traveling together and includes accommodation, breakfast, all transfers, English-speaking guide, all excursions mentioned in the itinerary, entrance tickets, cable car rides, and daily bottled water. Please note that international flights, visa fees, lunches, dinners, and personal expenses are not included in this price.

Absolutely! This tour is perfect for first-time international travelers. Everything is organized for you—from airport pickups to hotel check-ins, from professional guides to pre-arranged transportation. You won’t need to worry about language barriers or navigating unfamiliar cities. Your English-speaking guide will be with you throughout the journey, explaining everything and ensuring you’re comfortable. Kazakhstan is also a very safe country with friendly people who are welcoming to tourists.

Late December in Kazakhstan is winter, so expect cold weather! Almaty temperatures typically range from -5°C to -15°C (23°F to 5°F), while Astana can be even colder, ranging from -15°C to -25°C (5°F to -13°F). However, the cold is dry rather than humid, making it more bearable. The snow-covered landscapes are absolutely stunning during this time. We strongly recommend packing warm winter clothing including a heavy coat, thermal wear, gloves, scarves, warm socks, and good winter boots. Layering is key!

Yes, Indian passport holders currently need a visa to enter Kazakhstan. However, the process is relatively straightforward. You can apply for an e-visa online through Kazakhstan’s official e-visa portal, which typically takes 5-7 business days to process. We recommend applying at least 2-3 weeks before your departure date to avoid any last-minute issues. The visa fee is separate from the package cost. Our team can provide guidance on the application process if needed.

Upon check-in at both hotels, you’ll be required to pay a security deposit of USD 100 per person (so USD 200 total for 2 adults). This is standard hotel policy in Kazakhstan and is fully refundable when you check out, provided there’s no damage to hotel property. You can pay this deposit via credit card or cash. The hold is typically released immediately upon check-out, though credit card refunds may take 3-7 business days to show in your account depending on your bank.

Daily breakfast is included at both hotels throughout your stay. These are typically buffet-style breakfasts with a variety of options including both local Kazakh dishes and international cuisine. However, lunches and dinners are not included in the package price. This gives you the flexibility to explore local restaurants, try street food, or choose dining options based on your preferences and budget. Your guide can recommend excellent restaurants at various price points and can even accompany you if needed.

This tour is suitable for most fitness levels. While there’s some walking involved during city tours and at mountain locations, everything is done at a comfortable pace with plenty of breaks. The cable car rides to Kok-Tobe and Shymbulak mean you don’t need to hike up mountains. The Alma-Arasan Gorge visit involves walking on relatively flat terrain. However, please note that you’ll be at high altitudes (up to 1,700+ meters), which some people may find challenging initially. We recommend staying hydrated and taking it easy on the first day to acclimatize. If you have any specific health concerns or mobility issues, please let us know in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.

While this is a fixed-departure group tour with a set itinerary, there is some flexibility for optional activities. As mentioned in the itinerary, shopping at Khan Shatyr Mall and Mega Silk Way Mall are optional additions. If you’d like to add other activities or extend your stay, please contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requests. Additional activities would incur extra costs depending on what you’d like to include. Keep in mind that some excursions may be weather-dependent, especially during winter.

Essential items include: heavy winter jacket, thermal underwear, multiple layers of warm clothing, waterproof winter boots with good grip, warm gloves and scarves, wool socks, hand and toe warmers (optional but helpful), lip balm and moisturizer (dry winter air), sunglasses (snow glare), camera with extra batteries (cold drains batteries faster), portable charger, any prescription medications, and photocopies of your passport and visa. Don’t forget comfortable walking shoes for indoor attractions and your hotel. A small backpack for day trips is also very useful for carrying water, snacks, and extra layers.

While travel insurance is not mandatory, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before your trip. Look for coverage that includes medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost luggage, and emergency evacuation. Medical facilities in Almaty and Astana are good, but medical costs can be expensive for foreigners without insurance. Additionally, travel insurance provides peace of mind in case unexpected situations arise before or during your trip. The cost of insurance is not included in the package price.

The local currency is the Kazakhstani Tenge (KZT). We recommend carrying some US Dollars or Euros from India, which can be easily exchanged at the airport or exchange offices in both cities. ATMs are widely available in Almaty and Astana, and most accept international cards. Credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are accepted at hotels, large restaurants, and shopping malls, but smaller shops and local markets often prefer cash. Your guide can help you find reliable exchange offices with good rates. It’s wise to notify your bank before traveling to avoid your card being blocked for suspicious foreign activity.

Yes! While the itinerary is packed with exciting activities, there are several evenings when you’ll have free time to explore on your own, relax at your hotel, or venture out for dinner at local restaurants. Day 1 evening is completely free after check-in, and most other days conclude by late afternoon or early evening, giving you time to explore nearby areas, shop, or simply rest. Your guide will provide recommendations for safe areas to explore and can help arrange transportation if needed. New Year’s Eve (Day 7) evening is also free for you to celebrate as you wish.

The domestic flight from Almaty to Astana on Day 5 is NOT included in the package price. You’ll need to book this flight separately. Flights between the two cities take approximately 1.5-2 hours and are operated by Air Astana, SCAT Airlines, and other carriers with multiple daily departures. We recommend booking an afternoon flight on December 29th to allow comfortable check-out from Almaty. Flight prices typically range from INR 5,000-10,000 per person depending on how far in advance you book. We can assist with recommendations on flight timings that work best with the itinerary, and your guide will accompany you to the airport.

The official languages in Kazakhstan are Kazakh and Russian. While English is not widely spoken among the general population, you’ll have an English-speaking guide throughout your entire journey who will handle all communication, translations, and interactions on your behalf. In hotels and major tourist attractions, staff typically speak some English. Your guide will be with you during all excursions and can even assist with restaurant recommendations and ordering food. Additionally, having translation apps on your phone can be helpful for simple interactions when you’re exploring on your own.

Kazakhstan is generally a very safe country for tourists. Crime rates are low, and violent crime against tourists is rare. Both Almaty and Astana are modern cities with good infrastructure and security. As with any travel destination, basic precautions apply: keep valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, avoid isolated areas late at night, and follow your guide’s advice. The political situation in Kazakhstan is stable. Women travelers, including solo female travelers, generally feel safe in Kazakhstan. Your guide will be aware of any local concerns and will ensure you visit safe areas throughout your journey.

We strongly recommend not drinking tap water in Kazakhstan. The package includes 2 bottles of 0.5-liter water per person daily, but you’ll likely need more, especially at higher altitudes where staying hydrated is important. Bottled water is inexpensive and widely available at shops, supermarkets, and kiosks throughout both cities. Hotels typically provide kettles in rooms, so you can boil water for tea or coffee. Most restaurants serve bottled or filtered water. Your guide can direct you to convenient places to purchase additional bottled water throughout your journey.

Kazakh cuisine is hearty and meat-focused, influenced by nomadic traditions and neighboring countries. You’ll find plenty of lamb, beef, and horse meat dishes (horse meat is optional—just let your guide know if you prefer to avoid it). Popular dishes include beshbarmak (meat with noodles), plov (rice with meat), manti (steamed dumplings), and various kebabs. For vegetarians, options may be more limited in traditional restaurants, but both Almaty and Astana have international restaurants offering vegetarian and even vegan options. Indian restaurants are also available in both cities if you’re craving familiar flavors. Hotel breakfasts typically offer variety including eggs, breads, cereals, fruits, and sometimes local dishes.

Your Indian mobile phone will work in Kazakhstan, but international roaming charges can be expensive. We recommend purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at the airport or from shops in the city. Kazakhstani operators like Kcell, Beeline, and Activ offer prepaid SIM cards with data packages at reasonable rates (approximately 2,000-3,000 KZT for 10-15GB). Free WiFi is available at both hotels and many cafes and restaurants. Having local data is helpful for maps, translation apps, and staying in touch with your guide. Make sure your phone is unlocked before leaving India to use a local SIM card.

Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory in Kazakhstan. In restaurants, 10% is considered generous if service charge isn’t included. For your guide and driver, tips are discretionary based on service quality—typically USD 5-10 per person per day is appreciated for excellent service. Hotel staff (porters, housekeeping) appreciate small tips of 200-500 KZT. Taxi drivers don’t typically expect tips, but rounding up the fare is a nice gesture. Your guide has been pre-paid through the package, but if you feel they’ve provided exceptional service throughout your journey, a tip at the end would be a kind gesture to show appreciation.

Since this tour includes the New Year period (December 25, 2025 – January 1, 2026), which is peak season in Kazakhstan, we strongly recommend booking as early as possible. Hotels and flights fill up quickly during this time, and prices tend to increase closer to the departure date. Ideally, book at least 3-4 months in advance to secure the best rates and availability. Early booking also gives you ample time to arrange your visa, book international flights, and prepare for the trip without rushing. A deposit will be required to confirm your booking, with the balance due 30-45 days before departure.
